PT/EXPO in Beijing is one of the largest international telecommunications exhibitions in Asia. From September 23rd – 27th over 500 exhibitors presented ICT technologies to more than 90,000 visitors. The focus this year was once again on 4G LTE and its rapid deployment in China. Fraunhofer IIS presented its vision on how 4G networks can benefit from improved audio quality in the field of mobile communications and entertainment.
The adoption of 4G services in China will likely be twice as fast as the adoption of 3G, according to research from GSMA Intelligence. There will be nearly 900 million 4G mobile connections in the country by the end of 2020, up from around 100 million in 2014.
Therefore, at PT/EXPO, the big mobile operators: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telcom showcased their advancements in the roll-out of LTE, whereas hardware providers such as Huawei and ZTE demonstrated their latest 4G enabled mobile devices. The focus of the LTE presentations still remains on download speed: Depending on the use of TD-LTE or LTE FDD this was advertised by the carriers in the range of 100 to 150 Mbit/s. Voice over LTE (VoLTE) was prominently presented in the research area of the China Mobile booth.
The best place at PT/EXPO to experience highly improved audio quality for mobile phone calls was at the Fraunhofer booth. Visitors were able to experience our vision in a live demonstration of how Full-HD Voice (http://www.full-hd-voice.com) elevates the sound of mobile 3G or 4G conferencing to that of high-end telepresence-style video conferences.
In addition, we presented the award winning technology Fraunhofer Cingo, which turns tablets and smartphones into true surround sound theaters. This makes Cingo the perfect addition to the latest smartphones, tablets and 4G multimedia services.
