Efficient audio streaming with xHE-AAC
Among the technologies and solutions Fraunhofer IIS is showcasing at their booth 6204 is xHE-AAC, the latest generation of the renowned AAC technology series. It is already used by major streaming services such as Netflix, by Facebook stories, and by Instagram Reels. The technology is natively supported in iOS, Android, Fire OS, and Windows. It provides DASH/HLS streaming at 12-320+ kbit/s, mandatory loudness and dynamic range control, and improved speech quality as well as stereo imaging.
Certified High-Res Wireless Audio
For wireless applications, Fraunhofer IIS is presenting their LC3plus technology. It addresses the drawbacks of today’s wireless communication platforms with advanced robustness features, ultra-low latency, and pristine high-resolution audio. By reducing the required bit rate by about 50 percent compared to older codecs, LC3plus enables energy-saving services that make a longer battery life or the development of smaller products possible. Thanks to the flexible codec design, applications are not limited to voice services, but can also be extended to high-quality music streaming. At the same time, the codec operates with low coding delay, low computational complexity, and small memory requirements. These benefits set it aapert from other codecs and qualify it for the Hi-Res Audio Wireless logo by the Japan Audio Society.
Personalized Immersive Audio
The third audio technology at the Fraunhofer booth is MPEG-H Audio, the Next Generation Audio (NGA) system for broadcast and streaming, that has recently been chosen as the only mandatory audio codec for Brazil’s upcoming DTV+ broadcast system. It is the most sophisticated object-based audio technology on the market and excels through its advanced personalization and accessibility options. It is also the only standardized NGA system that can automatically adapt the immersive sound experience to the individual listening environment. MPEG-H Audio is the only audio system capable to deliver 3D Audio sound using the 22.2 speaker layout developed by the largest Japanese broadcaster NHK and has been selected for the upcoming Advanced ISDB-T TV standard in Japan. JPEG XS with Application Support Package
Fraunhofer IIS also creates cutting-edge video codecs. At InterBee, visitors can explore JPEG XS for ST2110 and IPMX. The JPEG XS SDK is compliant with open standards. It provides specific features for professional use, transferring high-resolution data over IP with Ultra Low Latency including Temporal Differential Coding TDC and Forward Error Correction FEC. We provide development kits for CPUs (Intel, AMD, ARM), GPUs (Nvidia) and FPGAs (Intel, AMD).
