From September 15-18, the world of media and entertainment technology industries is gathering in Amsterdam for the International Broadcasting Convention IBC. The Fraunhofer Audio and Media Technologies division will showcase the latest innovations for the industry at our booth, in seminars, and on panels. Come and see what’s new in Digital Radio, Audio, and Video.
Visit us at the Fraunhofer booth
On our booth B.80 in hall 8 we feature technology demonstrations for applications in Digital Radio, audio/video streaming, immersive and interactive Next-Generation Audio and Digital Cinema.
Our Digital Radio specialists showcase software components that enable radios to cross-fade automatically between analog FM, digital radio, and Internet streaming for an uninterrupted listening experience. They also present technologies which enable the transmission of images, text messages, and other information.
For the streaming world, our latest generation of AAC codecs, xHE-AAC, will be featured in several demonstrations. The latest updates and developments include the integration of xHE-AAC Live Automatic Loudness for encoding of live broadcasts and events which complement the existing file-based encoding. xHE-AAC is part of professional encoders from leading suppliers such as Ateme, Mainconcept and Qbit.
For Next Generation Audio production, several recent advancements can be explored in the MPEG-H Audio ecosystem. They span from the integration into Pro Tools and upcoming Nuendo releases to advanced accessibility options and developments in the broadcast and streaming area.
Our colleagues from the video coding departments will present a prototype of their new postproduction cloud framework that unites several tasks such as subtitle generation and translation. In addition to that, the JPEG XS workflow will soon be expanded by a JPEG XS recorder that feeds camera and other input into it.
Hear our experts
Being thought leaders in their areas and with many years of experience, our Fraunhofer colleague are valued speakers and panelists at IBC. Here is a short list of events where you can meet and listen to our experts:
Live production – next generation technology trials (15 Sep, 12:45 – 13:45, IBC Technical Papers, only for Conference Pass Holders)
In this session our colleagues Adrian Murtaza and Yannik Grewe together with world leading broadcasters, share their experiences of two broadcast trials where the MPEG-H technology was integrated into live production workflows.
EDCF Seminar at IBC 2023 (17 Sep, 14:00 – 17:00, free to attend)
The European Digital Cinema Forum (EDCF) is once again hosting its long standing and much anticipated EDCF Global Cinema Seminar at IBC. Fraunhofer’s Philipp Eibl is presenting a talk on “AI-based subtitle generation and translation in cloud-based workflows”
What’s next for Audio Codecs? – The IET John Logie Baird Lectures at IBC (18 Sep, 11:00 – 11:45. Partner Sessions, free to attend)
Audio is a vital part of all media and decades of research into codecs have given us a sophisticated landscape of audio codecs which can deliver stereo music at very low bandwidths. With very low latency codecs available for contribution that also support surround sound and next generation audio throughout the broadcast chain, we ask what the future challenges are and what’s next for audio in television and radio. Our colleagues Stefan Meltzer and Daniela Rieger will contribute their view on things to this exciting panel.
We look forward to see you at IBC in Amsterdam.
