The new Audi A4 Avant and Audi A4 Limousine are the most recent Audi models in the Audi series equipped with Symphoria sound: Fraunhofer’s technology also creates a concert hall atmosphere in the Audi TT Coupé , Audi TT Roadster, Audi R8 Coupé and the Audi Q7 SUV. Symphoria´s intelligent algorithms together with the Bang & Olufsen Sound System and the 19 integrated loudspeakers create a new audio experience that sounds as natural and realistic as being directly at the recording location. “Symphoria refines the sound image to provide an atmosphere where passengers have the impression of enjoying a live performance or being in the concert hall where the sound moves with them”, explains Harald Popp, deputy division director of the Audio & Multimedia division of Fraunhofer IIS.
Bang & Olufsen is confident in the results of this collaboration: “Using Fraunhofer’s Symphoria® technology, the sound system provides an acoustic spaciousness in the Audi A4 that sets new standards for automotive 3D sound reproduction. […] It is capable of flawlessly reproducing a multitude of music categories, with a focus on being unblemished and distinctive, effectively and virtually transporting listeners to packed stadiums, recording studios, jazz clubs or concert halls on their drive”. Audi is also impressed: “The 3D sound allows an audio experience that is completely new in a car: The music conveys a genuine concert-hall feeling.”
The new Audi A4 models equipped with Fraunhofer’s technology will be officially presented to the public at the 66. International Automobile Fair (IAA), taking place September 17-27, 2015. The Audi A4 Avant and the Audi A4 Limousine will be available in autumn 2015.
